Barrel Culture Brewing and Blending

Who doesn’t love a cold beer during a hot summer afternoon? For a beer lover, that’s paradise. Now, imagine you have a group of friends who share your love for craft beer! Wouldn’t that be wonderful? You could hang out at different breweries each weekend, try new flavors, and appreciate life for offering you beer and friends together. What more could you do?

Barrel Culture Brewing and Blending

The Barrel Culture Brewing and Blending is a brewery that first opened its doors to the public in October 2017 by none other than a group of friends who shared the same love for craft beer that they now show to their brewery.

These friends shared the same passion, stood in lines to taste their favorite beer, camped out in the rain, waited under the sun, and shared several bottles of beer before they wondered if others felt the same way as they did.

Caroline Barbee, Ethan Barbee, and Jared Strauss envisioned a brewery that would make people understand the craze for beer. These friends understand that brewing craft beer requires dedication, just like friendship does, and with Barrel Culture Brewing and Blending, they want to show just how beer and friendship blend together. The brewery, which is tucked away outside of the Research Triangle Park in Durham, is dedicated to satisfy the quench of beer lovers and offer their service to protect the crazy craft beer culture.

Paul Wasmund, the Head Brewer at Barrel Culture Brewing and Blending, was formerly a part of Bond Brothers Beer Company. He has always put his heart into brewing stouts and Indian Pale Ales for several years and was keen on putting a spin to deliver something unique.

Being a part of the Barrel Culture Brewing and Blending gave him just that! His unique styling from luscious, velvety stouts to juicy and Hazy Indian Pale Ales promises a new experience to everyone, from a beer virgin to an experienced beer drinker.

What makes them one of the best?

The Barrel Culture Brewing and Blending isn’t like any other brewery with a bar, kitchen, cellar, and so on. The brewery is simply more than all that. It is a blend of unique beer culture and friendship.

The founders of the brewery wanted every customer to come together as friends and have a good time while enjoying their favorite beer. And the founders did just that. What’s unique about this brewery is that it offers funky programs such as ping pong tournaments.

To add to this, the Barrel Culture Brewing and Blending has some of the friendliest owners who make the experience even more exciting.

What is the best part of their brewery?

As the name suggests, the best part of the brewery is its culture. The Barrel Culture Brewing and Blending is a unique blend of friendship and beer culture. The fruity sour beer is one among the several sour beers that they offer, not to mention the slushies.

Yes! You heard it right! They sell slushies that have a unique taste and flavor as well, just like the beer they sell. The vibe, beer, ambience, and everything make this place a great place for family and friends to hang out.

The Barrel Culture Brewing and Blending serves the Triangle area of North Carolina, which includes Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill. Being one of the latest addition to a long list of breweries in the area, the brewery provides oak-aged, fruit-forward beers, and slushing in a fun environment. What keeps them apart from the rest is the unique beer that resembles liquified skittles in hue, which looks more like ice cream than beer.

Which is the best beer they brew?

That is one tough question to answer. The Barrel Culture Brewing and Blending is known as a sour brewery that offers a unique taste and flavor. Their customers distinguish their brews to taste more like cocktails than sour beers and have converted several beer haters into huge fans.

Being a local brewery offering 100% Oak-fermented, rustic fruit, and wild artisanal style ales, they have added uniqueness by blending their ale with local terroir and aggressive flavor profiles. They have a lot to offer, from Tropical Gusher and Blue Sweet Tart, to Golden Blend and Peach Skillets.

Some of their best brews include:

  • Oats and What Else: It is boldly brewed with Pilsner malt, raw wheat, malted oats, and milk sugar, and then hopped intensely with Azacca and Sabro.
  • The Yard – Strawberry Milkshake Indian Pale Ale: It is brewed with raw wheat, malted oats, milk sugar, raspberries, strawberries, and then dry-hopped with Sabro.
  • Hula Hookup: It is a barrel-aged mixed-fermentation golden sour ale, which is brewed with house cultures and then refermented with apricot, mango, pineapple, and passionfruit before being conditioned on toasted coconut, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Dark Chocolate M&Ms’s Slide
  • Lil Cherry Boi
  • Fluffy Jam

Due to their unique styling, the Barrel Culture Brewing and Blending have a large fan following in the Triangle area of North Carolina.
